Closer (2004)

The relationships of two couples become complicated and deceitful when the man from one couple meets the woman of the other.

This movie has a fantastic cast - Julia Roberts, Natalie Portman, Jude Law and Clive Owen, who all did a great job. “Closer” is intelligent, thought provoking and rawly realistic. It’s beautiful, terrible, and real. Sadly, in a world where we’re used to hearing stories in the simplest and most easy to swallow terms, I doubt that the average lover of romantic comedies and action flicks will like it. This is a story about the perpetual struggles found in human relationships.

Mars Attacks! (1996)

I don’t think there’s ever been a movie with more famous actors than “Mars Attacks!”. It’s a funny/macabre/black comedy about Martians, who are “visiting” planet earth and end up destroying it. You will see about 8 different stories of people, from all parts of the United States.

Directed by Tim Burton, I enjoyed this film like all of Burton’s movies, but this one is pretty weird (it’s based on a trading card series). You have to see it as a satire, criticizing the prejudices Americans have, for example the attitude against foreigners, the Government that is lying, the army that takes over control, problems within the society, war and peace…

And now the list of actors who are in this movie:

Jack Nicholson (who has two different roles; President and Millionaire from Las Vegas) Natalie Portman as his daughter and Glenn Close as first lady. Also starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Jack Black, Annette Bening, Pam Grier, Tom Jones, Danny DeVito, Michael J. Fox, Pierce Brosnan, Lukas Haas, Christina Applegate, Martin Short (and many more, the only one missing is Johnny Depp). Frank Welker did all the voices for the Martians in the film.

Brothers (2009)

Brothers, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman and Tobey Maguire, is an interesting and profound drama about family values, war, and relationships. The acting is fantastic.

Plot:

Before leaving on his second tour in Afghanistan, Marine Captain Sam Cahill, a leader, an athlete, a good husband and father, welcomes his screw-up brother Tommy home from prison. He’d robbed a bank. In country, Sam’s helicopter is shot down and all are presumed dead. Back home, while Sam wastes away as a prisoner in a remote encampment, Tommy tries to take care of the widow and her two children. While imprisoned, Sam experiences horrors unbearable, so when he’s rescued and returns home, he’s silent, detached, without affect, and he’s convinced his wife and brother have slept together. Demons of war possess him; what will silence them?

Thor (2011)

Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman are really great on screen, I also loved Hopkins, so the cast and the directing was wonderful. Everyone who knows the comic will also like this film, even if you don’t know it, its so funny and full of action, you’ll love it!

Plot:

The powerful but arrogant warrior Thor is cast out of the fantastic realm of Asgard and sent to live amongst humans on Earth, where he soon becomes one of their finest defenders.

Léon (1994)

Sad, funny, violent, incredibly touching - few films manage to tick all the boxes and even fewer are about hitmen. Young Natalie Portman is terrific, I mean she was 12 during this movie. How amazing is that! Of course Gary Oldman and Jean Reno are fantastic as well.
On the face of it, a love story between a twelve year old girl and a hairy French hitman would raise a few eyebrows, but director Luc Besson handles it so beautifully, it seems like the most natural thing on earth. They are united in being totally alone in the world.

Cool Soundtrack too!

Plot:

Mathilda, a twelve-year old New York girl, is living an undesirable life among her half-family. Her father stores drugs for two-faced cop Norman Stansfield. Only her little brother keeps Mathilda from breaking apart. One day, Stansfield and his team take cruel revenge on her father for stretching the drugs a little, thus killing the whole family. Only Mathilda, who was out shopping, survives by finding shelter in Léon’s apartment in the moment of highest need. Soon, she finds out about the strange neighbour’s unusual profession - killing - and desperately seeks his help in taking revenge for her little brother. Léon, who is completely unexperienced in fatherly tasks, and in friendships, does his best to keep Mathilda out of trouble - unsuccessfully. Now, the conflict between a killer, who slowly discovers his abilities to live, to feel, to love and a corrupt police officer, who does anything in his might to get rid of an eye witness…
