The Fugitive (1993)
With Harrison Ford, Tommy Lee Jones, Julianne Moore and Sela Ward. Dr. Richard Kimble, unjustly accused of killing his wife, must find the real one-armed killer while avoiding Marshal Sam Gerard. It has its fair dose of action, but not so much that it overrides or smothers the tension and suspense of the plot.
Won Oscar
Plot:
A well respected Chicago surgeon Dr. Richard Kimble has found out that his wife, Helen, has been murdered ferociously in her own home. The police found Kimble and accused him of the murder. Then, Kimble (without Justifiable Reason) was tried, convicted, and sentenced to death. However, on the way to prison, Kimble’s transport crashed. Kimble escapes and is now on the run. Deputy Samuel Gerard from Chicago takes charge of the chase of Kimble. Meanwhile, Kimble makes up his own investigation to find who really killed his wife, and to lure Gerard and his team into it as well.

Boogie Nights (1997)
The story of a young man’s adventures in the Californian pornography industry of the 1970s and 1980s. With Mark Wahlberg, Julianne Moore, John C Reilly and Burt Reynolds. Mr. Reynolds and Walhberg are great in this film. The felling of the 70s is very well captured by Paul Thomas Anderson. Its just a fun movie to watch, with original characters and good dialogs (you will be surprised of how many actors in this film are established actors by now).
Plot:
Everyone’s born with one special thing, and Eddie Adams uses his humongous “asset” to take the world of film pornography by storm. Things get ugly though when success leads to drugs and ruin. Will Dirk clean up and get back on top? Will Amber see her son? Will Rollergirl ever take off her skates?!

A Single Man (2009)
A story that centers on an English professor who, one year after the sudden death of his partner, is unable to cope with his typical days in 1960’s Los Angeles. Great cast!
Plot:
It’s November 30, 1962. Native Brit George Falconer, an English professor at a Los Angeles area college, is finding it difficult to cope with life. Jim, his personal partner of sixteen years, died in a car accident eight months earlier when he was visiting with family. Jim’s family were not going to tell George of the death or accident let alone allow him to attend the funeral. This day, George has decided to get his affairs in order before he will commit suicide that evening. As he routinely and fastidiously prepares for the suicide and post suicide, George reminisces about his life with Jim. But George spends this day with various people, who see a man sadder than usual and who affect his own thoughts about what he is going to do. Those people include Carlos, a Spanish immigrant/aspiring actor/gigolo recently arrived in Los Angeles; Charley, his best friend who he knew from England, she who is a drama queen of a woman who romantically desires her best friend despite his sexual orientation; and Kenny Potter, one of his students, who seems to be curious about his professor beyond English class. As the evening wears on, George reconsiders but fate intervenes.

The Hours (2002)
A film about three generations of women, all of whom, in one way or another, have had to deal with suicide in their lives. Great cast with actors like Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, Ed Harris and Julianne Moore.

Benny & Joon (1993)
Poignant drama with a beautiful romance. The film pulled no punches in displaying the difficulties that Joon faced in her mental illness and how this affected the people around her, especially her brother. Depp is great as always playing that crazy, I’m not even sure what he does, but he’s funny and exactly what the family needs.
Plot:
In a small town, an auto mechanic named Benny is devoted to taking care of his mentally ill sister, Joon, who can barely function alone in the real world despite being a talented artist. This relatively stable situation is shaken up when Benny is obliged in a poker game to welcome another player’s relative, Sam, to his home for a few days. When Sam arrives, he quickly makes an impression with his quietly eccentric ways which emulate the antics of the great silent movie comedian, Buster Keaton. Without Benny’s full knowledge, Sam and Joon find themselves drawn to each other to the fullest degree. However when Benny finds out, it creates a rift in the siblings as they struggle to accept their relationship is profoundly changing with the presence of this odd newcomer.
