The Broken Tower (2011)
Director/Writer/Producer/Actor James Franco made this film about American poet Hart Crane, who committed suicide at the age of 32 by jumping off the steamship SS Orizaba. We also see Michael Shannon, Stacey Miller and Dave Franco (little brother of James) playing a young Crane in this biopic, that’s very well written. Set against the backdrop of 1920’s New York, Paris, Cuba, and Mexico - shot in black and white, so the movie looks good too. I didn’t know Crane, but after watching this, I was really interested in him and his poetries.
A look at the dreams, unapologetic love of men, manic highs and depressive, death-haunted lows of early 20th century rebellious, self-destructive visionary poet Hart Crane from his early years as the son of a wealthy Cleveland businessman through his sojourns in New York and Paris.

James Dean (2001)
With James Franco as Dean, Michael Moriarty, Enrico Colantoni and Valentina Cervi. This production was made in 2001 for TV and got Franco his first Golden Globe, he really deserved it. Not only does Franco look like Dean, he managed to show us the inner conflicts he had with himself, the bad relationship with his father, his love to Pier Angeli and how he became the rising star in film. Although he had a short 3 movie career he was praised in all 3 films (East of Eden, Rebel Without a Cause and Giant). He was an incredible actor and surely would’ve made many more powerful movies if he hadn’t passed away. So if you are a James Dean fan, you will enjoy this one, maybe even learn something new about him.

An American Crime (2007)
SIMPLY EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH THIS! this movie is just amazing! it made me cry too. (its really brutal in some scenes) its a true story, which makes it even worse. NO happy end. Ellen Page and Catherine Keener are fantastic - James Franco is also in this movie, which was one of the reason i wanted to watch it :) Plot: Based on a true story that shocked the nation in 1965, the film recounts one of the most shocking crimes ever committed against a single victim. Sylvia and Jennie Fae Likens, the two daughters of traveling carnival workers are left for an extended stay at the Indianapolis (3850 E. New York St. is hardly suburban, nor was it in 1965, by any stretch of the imagination.) home of single mother Gertrude Baniszewski and her six children. Times are tough, and Gertrude’s financial needs cause her to make this arrangement before realizing how the burden will push her unstable nature to a breaking point. What transpires in the next three months is both riveting and horrific, leaving one child dead and the rest scarred for life. Trailer: http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi2850291993/
