Mean Streets (1973)
A film by Martin Scorsese with actors like Robert De Niro, Harvey Keitel and David Proval. Scorsese uses a great selection of popular music in Mean Streets and that has become a trademark of his.
Mean Streets is a great and pretty realistic film. It was Martin Scorsese’s first ever collaboration with Robert DeNiro. Their very successful partnership has produced some of the best movies ever made: Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Casino…
Plot:
The future is set for Tony and Michael - owning a neighbour- hood bar and making deals in the mean streets of New York city’s Little Italy. For Charlie, the future is less clearly defined. A small-time hood, he works for his uncle, making collections and reclaiming bad debts. He’s probably too nice to succeed. In love with a woman his uncle disapproves of (because of her epilepsy) and a friend of her cousin, Johnny Boy, a near psychotic whose trouble-making threatens them all - he can’t reconcile opposing values. A failed attempt to escape (to Brooklyn) moves them all a step closer to a bitter, almost preordained future.

From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)
Two criminals and their hostages unknowingly seek temporary refuge in an establishment populated by vampires, with chaotic results.
Sounds crazy? It is! I love the originality of this movie and the cast is phenomenal, actors like Harvey Keitel, Quentin Tarantino, George Clooney, Salma Hayek and Juliette Lewis.
Plot:
Seth Gecko and his younger brother Richard are on the lam after a bloody bank robbery in Texas. They escape across the border into Mexico and will be home-free the next morning, when they pay off the local kingpin. They just have to survive ‘from dusk till dawn’ at the rendezvous point, which turns out to be a Hell of a strip joint.

Thelma & Louise (1991)
Thelma and Louise is a rarity. It is a buddy movie about two women. Funny and well written. And its also the movie that made Brad Pitt famous.
Won Oscar

Louise is working in a fast food restaurant as a waitress and has some problems with her friend Jimmy, who, as a musician, is always on the road. Thelma is married to Darryl who likes his wife to stay quiet in the kitchen so that he can watch football on TV. One day they decide to break out of their normal life and jump in the car and hit the road. Their journey, however, turns into a flight when Louise kills a man who threatens to rape Thelma. They decide to go to Mexico, but soon they are hunted by American police.

The Piano (1993)
Moving film about a woman who only has a daughter and her piano. The acting and directing is beautiful. Holly Hunter received an Oscar for her fascinating performance as Ada, a mute woman who is forced into an arranged marriage. Anna Paquin was 11 when she won for best supporting actress. And of course this film has one of the best soundtracks.
Won 3 Oscars
Plot:
It is the mid-nineteenth century. Ada is a mute who has a young daughter, Flora. In an arranged marriage she leaves her native Scotland accompanied by her daughter and her beloved piano. Life in the rugged forests of New Zealand’s South Island is not all she may have imagined and nor is her relationship with her new husband Stewart. She suffers torment and loss when Stewart sells her piano to a neighbor, George. Ada learns from George that she may earn back her piano by giving him piano lessons, but only with certain other conditions attached. At first Ada despises George but slowly their relationship is transformed and this propels them into a dire situation.

Bugsy (1991)
I loved everything about this movie; the storytelling, the way it was shot (40s style), the dialogs and of course the brilliant cast!
Won 2 Oscars
Plot:
The story of how Bugsy Siegel started Las Vegas. Glamour Was The Disguise.
New York gangster Ben ‘Bugsy’ Siegel takes a brief business trip to Los Angeles. A sharp-dressing womaniser with a foul temper, Siegel doesn’t hesitate to kill or maim anyone crossing him. In L.A. the life, the movies, and most of all strong-willed Virginia Hill detain him while his family wait back home. Then a trip to a run-down gambling joint at a spot in the desert known as Las Vegas gives him his big idea.

(the real one, On a trip to the East, Bugsy drove through Las Vegas and had a dream of turning it into a “mecca”. Siegel went back to Las Vegas backed by Al Capone to establish the Trans America race wire service)
